On the chopping block, again

Hi,

The White House budget proposal for FY2020 targets elimination of federal funding for the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) and Innovative Approaches to Literacy (IAL). Both of these funding streams are important to our NH libraries. The bipartisan "Dear Appropriator" letters are starting to circulate in the House, asking Representatives to preserve more than $210 million in federal library funding. There is one letter for support of LSTA funding, and one letter for IAL funding. Right now, we are asking you to call your Representative and ask for their support of federal library funding by signing both of those letters (see below for additional information from ALA).

To determine which Representative you should call, visit https://www.govtrack.us/congress/members/NH#representatives and click on the district maps to see where your library/hometown is located.

The best way for this message to reach Representatives Kuster and Pappas is to call their Washington DC offices and speak to one of their staff:
Representative Kuster: (202) 225-5206
Representative Pappas: (202) 225-5456

Here are the talking points for your phone call:
Point 1: The White House fiscal year 2020 budget proposal eliminates federal funding for libraries. The Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) funding and the Innovative Approaches to Literacy (IAL) funding are both crucial to New Hampshire libraries and their communities.
Point 2: I'm asking Representative _____________  to sign the two bipartisan "Dear Appropriator" letters before March 27th. There is one letter for LSTA funding, and one letter for IAL funding. Please sign both of those letters on behalf of your New Hampshire constituents.
Point 3: Thank you very much for your support of literacy, libraries, and our New Hampshire communities. [Important to say this last one!]
Please make this call by next Friday 3/22. The “Dear Appropriator” letters need to be in the committee by early the following week. NHLA is also a sending letters to our two Representatives, asking them to sign the “Dear Appropriator” letters.
